Hiatus..

I feel bad that I’ve been away from blogging on here for Ryu’s sake and for my sake trying to organize everything on here. Aside from Ryu misplacing the battery to my camera being the reason why I haven’t posted there’s been a lot of problems at home. I’m not quite sure if this would be the perfect place to share all of this considering this blog is mainly about Ryu. However, I think that because this does involve Ryu I thought that it might be sort of soothing to share with you all what’s been going on.

I’m not sure how many of you are single parents out there, but it sure is hard to be new to the idea of being one. Ryu’s father and I have been separated for a good 6-7 mo. now and well we’re trying to make the best out of it. The hardest part of this all is we still do live together for financial reasons. At this moment we’ve decided (or at least he did) that he’s going to venture off within the next 3 months and to pretty much get myself ready to do things on my own. We’re trying to figure out how we’re going to divide the time for Ryu because this just seems far worst than a normal breakup or divorce. Having any type of separation with children involved makes the situation much more difficult. I think in the beginning of it all I was being unreasonable to give Romeo and type of custody to see his son due to my pain and selfishness. To make a long story short, I gave in and he and I are trying to be civil and it takes baby steps to be friends. I think we’re slowly getting there, but of course it took a lot from my part to calm down and look at it from a realistic point of view. I can’t be selfish at least not when it comes to my son. As much as I want to take him away from his father I have absolutely no reason to. Romeo’s a great dad and he will continue to remain and be in Ryu’s life and in my life. Therefore, being friends would be the easiest way to do so.

At this point I’ve got to figure out what typical single parents do:

  • Job?
  • Housing?
  • Transportation?
  • Childcare?
  • Expenses?

I have to think about all of that in a span of 3 months. I need to buckle down and start somewhere. Things might not be perfect, but the holidays are coming up. I need to make the best out of this difficult situation for my son. It’s not his fault his parents aren’t meant to be together and can’t seem to find a solid ground together. However, what his parents can provide is two happy homes that’s going to love him twice as much!

If you all relate or need some advice I’d love to talk. I’d love to know what other single mommies out there are doing. How they got through tough times alone?

Shopping & 1st Haircut

I was very fortunate that during the week my boss had handed me  giftcard to Target with the amount of $200.ooUSD just as a gift for forgetting my birthday. I’m very thankful and lucky because that’s normal for my boss to give us gifts on our birthdays or even when they’re just in a very good mood. I decided that instead of buying anything for myself that Ryu deserved to get a bunch of brand new clothes and supplies since he needs it. The giftcard that was given to me is a big help considering that its letting me catch up with a couple bills and allows me a little leeway to spend on other things. Anyway, I was excited to go shopping for Ryu since it was about that time that I bought him clothes that were a good 1-3 size bigger than him. Shucks, I even bought clothes for a 2 yr. old just so he can wear it for a while and I usually do that when I shop for him. Kids tend to grow so fast that sometimes spending almost $20.00USD for a pair of jeans or shoes can be a waste if they don’t wear it for a while. Here are a couple of the items I picked out:

Infant Boys’ Cherokee® Blue Erie Wash Denim Jeans

Infant Toddler Boys’ Genuine Kids from OshKosh Grey Cuffed Denim Pants

Infant Toddler Boys’ Almost Black Track Jacket

I can’t seem to find the other hoodies or shirts that I bought at Target on the website. Anyway, I did buy him a couple other pairs of clothing that I thought would be great since the weather was starting to change (finally). I also got him a hat that I thought was super cute, and I’ll be posting some pictures of Ryu in one of his new outfits. If there’s one thing that I love it’s absolutely dressing Ryu, he’s so cute I just love that my baby boy looks like a little toddler now! He’s all grown up. To top oft the mini shopping over the weekend.. my friend and I went to go look around the mall on Monday and each of us bought Ryu a pair of shoes! Lately, I’ve been having this shoe crave for Ryu. I think I’ll be buying him a pair of Jordan’s next week!

from his Uncle Olah ❤

high tops converse.. my favorite for Ryu. ❤

When I came home with the boxes of shoes Ryu ran up to me and just yanked them from me. He was so happy about the shoes he kept smiling at me and opening the boxes. I’m not quite sure he gets that they’re gifts just yet, but he did know that they were for his feet, lol. He tried putting them on himself which was so cute. When I tried them on him he just sat down like a good boy and gave me his foot to put each shoe on.

On another note, Ryu got his first ever haircut over the weekend! I’m so glad that Ryu didn’t really give the hairdresser a problem. For the most part he sat like a really good boy in the chair and just sat there up until the end. I suppose he started to get a bit tired waiting. Here’s the Qik video that I took while he was getting his haircut. Sorry it’s not so clear, but on my phone it seemed fine.

I honestly, didn’t quite like how the hairdresser fixed his hair afterward, but it was a big change. I wasn’t used to seeing Ryu with such short hair let alone a semi-buzz cut. Romeo absolutely loved the cut! My mom dreaded it when we got home almost found her in tears because she’s so used to Ryu’s long hair. I told her hair is hair, it’ll eventually grow back. What I liked about Ryu getting his haircut was that he looks like a little boy now. I hate when others ask if Ryu’s a boy or girl, lol. At least now you can really distinguish that he’s a little boy. Here are some more pictures from the salon.

The good thing a lot of people are shocked why Ryu doesn’t cry when we put him through these first time situations. Honestly, we’re so blessed that Ryu barely cries. If he does it’s because he’s tired or finally irritated. Otherwise, he’s a very social, talkative little boy. I don’t know how that’s come about considering when he was younger I never liked anyone touching him, haha. I guess different kids, different strokes? He has his moments and I’m glad that at this point he can tolerate and make life a little bit easier for us. You’d be surprised too when he gets shots he actually just sits there up until he gets it he cries quietly. Eventually, he just knocks out. I love Ryu and I’d love him even if he was a loud little boy!

Here is Ryu’s outfit over the weekend.

Sippy cup me..

Instead of just posting random pictures I actually wanted to write about Ryu’s transition into using a sippy cup rather than a bottle. His pediatrician had advised that Ryu should completely be off the bottle by the time he turns a year old. Honestly, it’s sort of our fault why we’re taking our precious time. Ryu’s 15 mo. old and he’s still on the bottle. The funny part is that if you give Ryu a sippy cup he knows how to drink out of it and he’s not quite picky. However, in the evenings when he knows he’s about to sleep is really the only time he gets fussy for a bottle. I’ve bought him different cups that could possibly appeal to him with colors and characters. The problem is Ryu actually would rather drink out of a normal cup with help rather than trying to suck his juice out of a sippy cup since he struggles with a hard top.

I guess the good part about the experience is that we’re slowly trying to transition Ryu into using a cup properly. He doesn’t seem to be struggling too much which is good. Below are a few tops I read online that’ll help push your child to use a cup rather than a bottle enjoy.

This all comes from babycenter.com

Some babies take to a sippy cup immediately; others take a while to get used to the idea. Here are some tips on making the transition easier:

  • Start off with a soft, pliable, nipplelike spout, which will feel more familiar to your baby than a hard plastic spout.
  • Show your baby how to raise the cup to his mouth and tip it up to drink.
  • Give it some time. Until your baby masters the maneuvers, you may want to put only water in the cup. When he shakes or throws it, even a sippy might not keep purple grape juice from hitting the carpet.
  • Don’t worry if your baby doesn’t use the sippy cup properly for a while. It makes a fine toy, too!
  • Try different models until you find one that suits your baby. Some cups have valves that are so effective at keeping the liquid from spilling that children really have to work to get a drink.
  • Encourage your child to use a regular cup when you think he’s ready.

Hope that’s of any help to you other mommies out there going through the same thing I am with Ryu.

Wordless Wednesday.

Pumpkin Patch 2010

The day before Halloween I decided to meet up with a couple friends to have a little play date with Ryu and the other little babies. Ryu’s the eldest from kids and either way Ryu was quite intrigued to be hanging out with them. I opted on taking a couple pictures that I absolutely adored. This is the first official time that I’ve taken Ryu to a Pumpkin Patch (heck it’s the first time I’ve ever been to one). It rained that morning so everything in the area was quite muddy, and well putting Ryu down sort of was a bad idea he was slipping everywhere he walked. I know your children are suppose to get dirty, but I didn’t expect it to be muddy that morning since I didn’t even know it rained. I would’ve dressed Ryu in much warmer clothes and shoes that I didn’t care much for. The last thing I wanted was a pair of new corduroy’s or converse getting messed up by mud. It’s alright though, I still had a good time spending time with the ladies and Romeo. Our other friend ran late so we weren’t able to see her or hang out.

It’s pretty much a mash up of images, so please be patient and enjoy all the pictures I took that morning.

If you’ve noticed.. in previous pictures whether it’d be on here or on my FB most of the pictures Ryu has he’s wearing this Mickey Mouse sweater. Honestly, I love it on him and I absolutely am thankful that Mykka gave it to us. The sweater fits him perfectly. Honestly, Ryu wasn’t so thrilled about the Pumpkin Patch just because we didn’t want him to walk around so much, hence the mud. We decided to put him in his stroller which he absolutely hates and well that kind of made him frustrated. My little boy is no longer a little boy.. he’s turning into my little man where you can tell he wants to be independent and do things on his own.

Outfit:

  • Sweater from H&M
  • Corduroy Pants from Macy’s
  • Shoes from Target by AllStar Converse

I’ll post some Halloween pictures as soon I get situated and transfer them to my computer at home. Ciao!

Long Overdue Photoshoot.

I have been promising to post of pictures of Ryu and his photoshoot. Unfortunately, only one of his Godparents were able to post some of the pictures up. Honestly, I love the pictures that they took, but being “amateur photographers” they get really serious about the images they take and well they become picky and perfectionists. I’m just lucky enough that one of his Godparents found that they had some great shots of Ryu. I really appreciate that he posted them up. Please do enjoy the pictures. There’s quite a few so hope you can bare the loading process.

Thank you Ninong (Godfather) Roland! I absolutely loved the photos they he took of Ryu! Seriously I’m so glad that Ryu absolutely LOVES and when I say “loves” I stress it when he gets his picture taken. Ryu’s face lights up when he gets to see his picture in the little LCD behind that camera.

Outfit:

  • Greaser Shirt – from Uncle Dre as a birthday present
  • Skinny Jeans – H&M
  • Skull Slip-On Shoes – Payless Shoe Source Sz. 5

I sort of wish I actually entered Ryu in G.A.P’s search for models. I was thinking of entering him, but for some reason I was waiting on these pictures, and it completely slipped my mind to enter him. It’s alright there will be new opportunities for Ryu in the future. I’m just glad my little man is enjoying himself when he takes pictures and that it comes natural to him.

Flashback Friday

This is a good post for Fridays due to the fact that lately I’ve been lagging on posting anything. This actually works out in my favor and I’ll be able to just strictly blog about Ryu all day long. If you’re wondering I do have tons of pictures of Ryu waiting, but I still have to edit them and  post them up.

Alright, these pictures aren’t really that old. They were taken sometime this month. However, I haven’t really gotten around to posting them due to me being sick and busy the last couple weeks. Can you all believe it’s already the end of October? Another new month is about to start and seriously I have no idea where the time’s gone by? I feel like I’m still missing out on some of the good or even bad days Ryu has. My baby is just growing up so fast and I’m not quite sure I’m ready for the small changes that has been happening here and there.

If there’s one thing I love it’s taking pictures of Ryu when were home. I feel like he’s more in his comfort zone and the great part about it is that he absolutely loves getting his picture taken. He seems to just sit there and pose for the camera. It’s also such a treat for him when you show him his pictures. He lights up like a Christmas tree and absolutely giggles to his own photos. Ryu I hope you appreciate being able to look back at your hundreds of pictures when you get older. You’re a wonderful little boy, what makes it all even better is that you’re all mine.

Like Nani’s recent post for her “Flashback Friday” she talks about being Sae being able to fit in an old sweater. The shirt Ryu is wearing in this picture was given to him by my sister (aunt/godmother) sometime earlier this year. The shirt was actually meant for 9 mo. old infant. I noticed that majority of Ryu’s shirts are for infants around 6-9 mo. I think it’s about that time we take Ryu shopping, and I can’t wait til Black Friday cause I’m going to make it a point that it’s Ryu’s shopping day. It’s about time we upgrade his wardrobe to much more flattering and form fitting clothes rather than clothes his tummy is sticking out of, haha. I love this shirt on Ryu, but I know I’ll have to part with this shirt since he’s just getting way too old for it. Anyway, enjoy some of the photos I took of Ryu at home wearing this Paul Frank top.
